NaNo Day One Wrapup

First, the incredible news - today I made it to 4,133 words. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself.

Second, the good news - most of what I've written so far has not been total crap.

Third, more good news - after struggling during the midnight session on not knowing what to write next, I decided to try the "scene" approach. Rather than trying to write my story in a linear, this-is-how-it-would-unfold-in-the-finished-novel way, I decided to pick a random scene that I know I want in the story and just write that scene.

Using that method took me from 2,055 to 4,133 with almost no anxiety. Of course, at some point down the road all these scenes will have to be bridged into a cohesive unit but I am writing and have written more in the past twenty-four hours than ever in my life on a single story so I'm very happy with the outcome.

Fourth, the bad news - tomorrow is another day and with the sort of luck that generally follows me around, I may not even make my 2,000 word per day goal.

We shall see. . .
