Despite feeling really, really rotten, I've managed to hang in there and have a word count to date of 12,363. Again, I am amazed to see the number keep climbing. There is no way I am going to back down after having come this far so it's 50k or bust. In order to stay on track, I've got to write a minimum of 1,000 words today. I just haven't been able to get out as many the past couple of days and I've lost my full day advantage.
The story is still taking a few turns on me in small ways although the overall story has not changed. I'm learning more about my characters every day but there are still holes in my research that are driving me crazy. I'm doing my best to just write through these areas knowing I can come back to them. Fortunately, the last couple of days have not presented me with any new characters I have to deal with. I'm sure before this is all over there will be more but I really need to flesh out the ones already alive first.
I'm finally getting to use all that research I did on Olde English just before NaNo began. Rather than trying to invent a new language, I decided to use OE as the language of my prophetic writings. Because of the linguistic traits of OE, I'm having to use it sparingly not being a scholar but I do think it adds to the feel I'm looking for.
I'm finally going to get together this afternoon with another NaNo writer that I met through the Mississippi forum - I'm very excited about my first "write-in." There are about 200 Mississippians signed up but we seem to be either very scattered geographically or just not very sociable. I had tried to get some folks together for a kick-off before NaNo officially began but couldn't get enough interest. I really hate that as to me there is safety in numbers (or something like that).
I'm also starting to dream about my story - that would be wonderful if the arcs I'm struggling with would resolve themselves for me while I slumber but I am only experiencing replays of the day's writing so no new breakthroughs from that quarter.
